Conservation tillage (leaving 30% or more crop residue on the ground), grass filter strips or waterways and gradient terraces are amoung several conservation practices that reduce the amount of soil that leaves cropland fields. If the soil remains on the field so does a larger amount of fertilizer and pesticides.
