Terraces come in several forms. They are earthen structures built to stop or slow water runoff. Some are built level from end to end so as to trap all of the water to grow crops and recharge ground water. Others are built with some slope or grade from one end to another. They are known as gradient terraces. These slow water runoff. Both help to reduce soil erosion.
