Normally a group of conservation practices are needed to manage the natural resources found in a given area. Each conservation practice has a primary purpose. Many practices though, enhance the effectiveness of others.

In the end, a set of conservation practices is applied on a piece of land based on what was determined in a conservation plan. The conservation plan carefully matches the resources, site specific situations and objective or management style of the land user. Sorting through the many conservation alternatives and developing conservation plans with land users is one of the key functions the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Conservation Districts provide the public.
